TransLaw 2016: International academic conference: Translation and Interpreting as a Means of Guaranteeing Equality under Law

Α conference on legal translation, the teaching of legal translation, and legal interpreting and how this can guarantee equality under the law has recently been announced. The conference will take place in Tampere, Finland in May 2016. See the initial announcement about the conference below.

University of Tampere, Finland, 2-3 May 2016

FIRST CIRCULAR AND CALL FOR PAPERS

The  School of Language, Translation and Literary Studies at the University of Tampere is organising an international conference on legal language, translation and interpreting on 2-3 May 2016.

We invite papers on e.g. the following topics

  •     Legal translation
  •     Administrative translation
  •     EU translation
  •     Authorised/Official translation
  •     Legal interpreting
  •     Teaching legal translation and interpreting
  •     Certifying legal translators and interpreters
  •     The texts of law and administration
  •     Legal terminology
  •     Phraseology of legal language
  •     Special characteristics of EU language

The symposium has three invited plenary speakers:

Prof. Ada Gruntar Jermol, University of Ljubljana
Prof. Jaakko Husa, University of Lapland
Prof. Melissa Wallace, University of Texas at San Antonio

In addition to the plenary speakers, there will be papers in parallel sections. The section papers last 20 minutes, with 10 minutes for discussion.

Proposals for section papers are invited by 30 September 2015. The abstracts (2500 characters max.) should be submitted online at https://elomake3.uta.fi/lomakkeet/14115/lomake.html. Acceptance of submitted abstracts will be notified by 27 November 2015.

WORKING LANGUAGES

The working languages of the symposium are English, French, German and Russian.

PUBLICATION

There will be a refereed conference volume, and those presenting a paper may submit their article. Writing instructions and publishing information will be announced later.
